Cemetery open day offers help to locate graves

THERE’S a leafy look to the attractions at a special open day in Batley Cemetery on Sunday.
Treethemed events include practical demonstrations of woodturning by the Birstall Woodturners, advice from a professional tree surgeon on site, and help from the Huddersfield Historical Society with tracing your family tree.
The day’s events, organised by Batley Cemetery Support Group and the Twin Chapels Centre, includes a raffle and stalls and there will be advice on locating family graves and a map of Batley from 1847, showing the land before the cemetery was built in 1866.
A display to show how Batley is supporting Kirklees Council in its commitment to the Fair Trade scheme will bring history right up to the present day.
Batley Cemetery Open Day takes place on Sunday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
