Bogus caller steals from 90yearold

CASH and bank cards were stolen from the home of a 90yearold Dewsbury woman by a  bogus official.
The victim answered a knock at the door of her home on Heybeck Lane, off Leeds Road at around 1.30pm last Wednesday to a white suspect in his 20s.
He claimed to be from an electricity firm and had come to read her meter. She let him in and then went outside to collect some washing.
The man was seen dashing from the home a few minutes later having taken her purse, which contained money and bank cards, from inside.
A police spokesperson said: “People who are approached by workmen or officials at their door are reminded to always ask to see their identification.
“If they are genuine, the caller won’t mind you asking and should give you a phone number for their company if you wish to check further.
“If there are any further doubts about whether they are genuine ask them to leave and then contact the police.”
Any witnesses to the incident can call DC Cath Lowdon at Dewsbury CID on 01924 431095.
