A woman was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition on Monday after an accident at Junction 27 on the M62.
It happened at around 2.45pm at the turnoff for the M621 when a red Vauxhall Astra careered down an embankment.
She and car’s male driver, who escaped with only minor injuries, both had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighters.
Crews from Batley, Cleckheaton, Morley and Hunslet attended the scene. The woman was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Tailbacks stretched as far as Brighouse.
