A DRINK-DRIVER who was more than twice over the legal limit when he crashed his car into a lamppost has been banned from driving for 20 months.
Jack Branch, 20, lost control of his car on Whitechapel Road, Cleckheaton after taking a corner too fast, leaving the carriageway and smashing into the post.
Police were called to the crash at around 5am on May 15 and found Branch still at the scene. He admitted he had been drinking and then failed a roadside breath test.
Officers found he had 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 35 mcg.
Branch, of Clayborn View, Cleckheaton, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to driving over the limit.
He admitted: “I felt okay because I left it a couple of hours before I drove. It was my mistake and I won’t do it again.”
He was fined £303 and must also pay £85 in costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
