I’m incredibly proud to have been re-elected to represent Dewsbury, Mirfield, Denby Dale and Kirkburton in Parliament.
I am humbled that local people have once again put their trust in the Labour Party, and in me to be their representative. I’m grateful to each and every person who voted for me.
We have worked exceptionally hard to build local support.
We will never take a single vote for granted and I will continue to be a visible, accessible, hard-working local MP.
I will be your strong voice in Westminster, fighting on your behalf to get the best deal I can for local people.
It is obviously hugely disappointing that nationally, we did not get a Labour government so that we could implement our popular and progressive manifesto pledges. But I will now fight hard to protect local people from the worst extremes of this Tory government and the deeper cuts that we know are coming to the public services we all rely on.
I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support you have shown me, and my incredible team of volunteers for all their hard work over the last two months.
I have been totally overwhelmed by the support and the relentless determination by so many to return a Labour MP and, ultimately this has been borne out by the scale of the majority we secured.
I will continue to fight to protect our NHS services and for the proper funding of local schools, for jobs and investment, for opportunity for all our young people and dignity for those in later years.
I’m determined to keep standing up for local people and our area and I’m delighted that with your support, I am able to carry on that fight.
For that – I can’t thank you enough.
