Les Miserables wows audiences in pop-up theatre

THE CURTAIN was raised on a special production of Les Miserables on Wednesday night in memory of the late MP Jo Cox.

The Batley & Spen Youth Theatre company staged their inaugural performance in a pop-up theatre at the Oxfam Wastesaver premises on Grange Road, Batley.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the 80-strong cast performed Mrs Cox’s favourite musical, directed by West End veteran Nick Evans as part of the Hear the People Sing project.

The project is supported by original producer Cameron Mackintosh, who even provided the costumes. Performances continue until tomorrow night’s (Sat) last show at 7.30pm.

There are also a limited number of complimentary tickets for More in Common, a separate production in honour of Mrs Cox.

For the free tickets to More In Common (not Les Miserables), email info@hearthepeoplesing.com with the number you would like.

There is a maximum of four per person and tickets can be collected at the theatre from 2.30pm tomorrow, Saturday, August 12.
