OVER 1,000 students from Heckmondwike Grammar School completed a 10-mile walk in aid of Kirkwood Hospice.
Pupils were joined by hospice staff last Friday as they trekked from the school via the Spen Valley Greenway to Oakenshaw and back.
Dubbed #HeckHike, the school wanted to promote environmentally-friendly initiatives as well as raising funds for the hospice.
Headteacher Peter Roberts said: “All the students and staff really got into the spirit of #HeckHike and the ringing of the start bell by every student signified 10 miles of community team-building and supporting each other emotionally and certainly physically. The camaraderie was superb, particularly demonstrated by the high-fives of the returning walkers passing their mates still on their way to Low Moor with lots of shouts of encouragement.
