THIS WEEK'S EDITION:

Issue 773

This week in The Press, read about a restaurant owner who has become embroiled in a dispute with Kirklees Council who are demanding he remove a set of illuminated palm trees from its car park.

A petition to save them has now attracted over 1,200 signatures. Also, health bosses have written an open letter to the district's MPs asking them to clarify the changes set to come into place at Dewsbury Hospital – and council tax is set to rise by 10 per cent over the next two years.

In sport this week, both Batley Bulldogs and Dewsbury Rams prepare for their final warm-up games ahead of the new Kingstone Press Championship campaign, which kicks off on February 5.

Tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm) Batley host dual registration partners Castleford Tigers at Mount Pleasant while on Sunday (3pm) Dewsbury travel to face Leigh.

Meanwhile in the BARLA National Cup Thornhill Trojans began the defence of their title with a win over Waterhead.

Liversedge FC came from 3-0 to snatch a draw in their latest Northern Counties East League outing, and Cleckheaton RUFC were narrowly beaten by National League Three North high-flyers Rossendale.

All this and plenty more is in this week's Press!
