This week in The Press, four men from Batley and Dewsbury have been jailed for grooming, trafficking and sexually assaulting two teenage girls.

The quartet were given a combined sentence totalling 50 years after they were found guilty at Leeds Crown Court.

We now know who will be standing in the Batley and Spen by-election on October 20 with 10 candidates vying to fill the seat left by the late Jo Cox.

As expected, former TV star Tracy Brabin will stand for the Labour Party against nine other fringe parties and independents.

Both the National Front and British National Party have fielded candidates. Kirklees Council have revealed which Children's Centres are at risk of closing as they look to save £10 million. The council have identified 19 sites of which 11 are likely to close, and a man has been warned over his future conduct after he became aggressive and abusive in the office of Dewsbury MP Paula Sherriff.

In sport, Batley Bulldogs chairman Kevin Nicholas insists he will reward the current squad with improved contracts in the same week when Dewsbury Rams announced five new signings.

In football, Liversedge remain top of the NCEL Premier after thrashing Barton Town Old Boys, and Jonathan Rimmington's side's early season form has sparked a Facebook campaign to 'Pack out Clayborn'.

Meanwhile Cleckheaton RU lost their last outing in National League Three North, Tony Blain talks about reaching 1,000 runs in just one season for Gomersal Seconds and Mike Smith provides you with his tips for this weekend's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
