THIS WEEK'S EDITION:

Issue 751

This week in The Press, we look at today's GCSE results, as our schools out-perform the national average, with Heckmondwike Grammar once again leading the way.

Former soap star and Labour activist Tracy Brabin has said she may stand for Jo Cox’s seat of Batley & Spen and we take a closer look at Dewsbury town centre, with a survey of just how many empty shops and businesses there are, and how the market is doing.

Dramatic footage has emerged of a car crash in Dewsbury involving a suspected stolen vehicle, and BBC weather presenter Paul Hudson turned out to be the ideal guest at the Mirfield Show as the weather brightened up nicely for the thousands who turned out.

In sport, Dewsbury Rams boss Glenn Morrison is relieved his side have rediscovered their team unity ahead of a home game against Bradford Bulls, which he admits has been missing this season.

This week also saw the Rams sign a three-year deal with Italian kit supplier Errea.

Elsewhere Batley Bulldogs coach John Kear believes his side have turned a corner in the Super 8s Qualifiers despite watching his side lose three games on the spin.

In Football Liversedge have continued their strong start to the Northern Counties East League Premier while Ossett Town and Albion have made it to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

And finally Hanging Heaton were saved by the weather last time out at Cleckheaton. They hope to put in a better performance when they host Morley at Bennett Lane on Saturday (Aug 27) in the All Rounder Bradford Cricket League.

It's all in The Press, the only paper that has North Kirklees covered.
