Issue 725

THIS week, fresh moves are under way to save A&E at Dewsbury District Hospital from cuts which could come into effect from as early as September.

Dewsbury would lose its top consultants to Pinderfields outside of daytime hours in a switch to a minor injuries unit approved nearly two years ago.

Since then a separate decision has been made to axe A&E at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary completely - leaving Dewsbury as the only significant emergency care centre in the whole of Kirklees.

Conservatives on Kirklees Council have proposals which could save both A&Es and which will be debated at a special meeting of the full council on Wednesday March 16.

In sport this week, Bulldogs coach John Kear has admitted he is working with the strongest squad of his reign at Mount Pleasant so far before playing Halifax this Sunday.

Glenn Morrison on the other hand is left regretting Dewsbury Rams' high penalty count against Oldham last time out. The Owl Lane side look to bounce back quickly against Whitehaven on Sunday.

But Thornhill Trojans were celebrating this week after beating League One side Keighley Cougars in a pre-season friendly.

Cleckheaton RUFC boosted their survival chances in National League Three North with a win, and in football it's no longer a surprise to find out Liversedge had a home game called off.

It's all in The Press, the only newspaper which has North Kirklees covered.
