THIS WEEK'S EDITION:

Issue 724

THIS week we report on multi-million pound cuts to council services – and a cut that was not made to Dewsbury's regeneration fund.

Few councillors made explicit references at an annual budget meeting on Wednesday to the impact of changes which will affect some of our poorest and most vulnerable residents.

Much of the debate was about a Tory plan to gut the entire £5m regeneration pot from Dewsbury in favour of Kirklees-wide schemes.

We have an exclusive interview with group leader Coun Robert Light about why that proposal was made.

Meet the Whitley MS sufferer who managed to walk 47 miles for charity, despite needing two sticks to aid his mobility.

Find out about the campaign to save former council offices in Thornhill from being sold off and plans to turn the building into a museum supported by a tea room.

A school in Earlsheaton is back on form and we have reaction from the Kozee Sleep human trafficking scandal.

In sport, Batley have injuries ahead of their game against Sheffield Eagles this weekend.

Coach John Kear also wants to see improvements after their defeat to Featherstone last time out.

Glenn Morrison on the other hand wants more of the same when they travel to Oldham this weekend looking to make it three wins from three.

Cleck RU lost at the weekend, slipping back into the relegation zone of National League Three North after defeat at Billingham.

Liversedge's woes also continued in the Northern Counties East League Premier. They remain rooted to the bottom after two defeats in the past week.

In boxing, Ismail Khan of Dewsbury's KBW gymX bagged himself the 52kg English title and Gary Sykes is preparing for a fight with Luke Campbell at Sheffield Arena next month.

It's all in The Press, the only newspaper which has North Kirklees covered.
