VOLUNTEERS have donated £7,500 for new radiology equipment at Dewsbury District Hospital.
The cash was raised through on-site coffee shops which sell refreshments to staff, visitors and patients.
It has paid for new high-seated chairs, trolleys and other equipment for the radiology service.
Staff had a grant application for funding rejected, so the volunteers stepped in to help.
Sue Barker, radiology team leader at Dewsbury said: “I can’t thank the volunteers enough.
“Their generosity is speeding up the radiology process for scores of patients every week.
“We can also provide a far more comfortable experience thanks to the specialised equipment they’ve funded.”
Nearly 700 volunteers help in various roles across the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Some work in coffee shops while others guide visitors to wards or offer support to patients.
Heather Walker, senior coffee shop organiser at Dewsbury, said: “Staff often don’t realise funds are available from the volunteers.
“We hope more will come forward. If it’s something that will be of benefit to patients it’s likely we’ll consider it.”
