Poster girl’s Creative Dutch double

Issue 633

DESIGNS from Amsterdam provided the inspiration for posters and invitations promoting Batley School of Art’s end-of-year show.

Kirklees College student Kim Lundgren, who came up with the advertising artwork for the ‘Create 14’ event, used an idea by Dutch graphic design studio OK 200 and their poster advertising a New York/Amsterdam pop-up show as the inspiration for her design.

Kim created the end-of-year show posters and invites as part of a project with the college’s graphic design team.

It features a black and white image of Batley School of Art, with text in Kirklees College’s official colours of blue, white and grey.

“Their work is very minimal and typography-based, focusing on the key points, which is what I feel I have recreated,” said Kim.

“I chose to include visuals of the building to represent who we are and what we’re proud to show here at Batley School of Art.”

The annual ‘Create’ show has become a must-see event for anyone with an interest in the visual arts and is a highlight in Batley School of Art’s calendar.

Create 2014 showcases works from students from aged 14-16 right through to degree level on a range of courses including art, design, photography, graphics, 3D, textiles and fashion.

It launches on Friday June 20 and admission is free.

There are two fashion shows on opening night, and tickets (priced £5) are available from Batley School of Art on Birkdale Road, Dewsbury.

Karen Matula, head of creative industries at Kirklees College, said: “This is a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their talents to local creative industries as well as opening the art school to prospective students and the local community.”
