BIRSTALL hostelry The Pheasant has been crowned pub of the season by the Heavy Woollen branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.
The Pheasant, on Gelderd Road, scooped the autumn award thanks to the efforts of landlords Ben and Louise Guy and the quality of their real ales.
When the couple arrived in 2009, they created a more welcoming atmosphere and refurbished the pub, making it a much more pleasant place to relax.
The team provide a variety of styles of beer and keep them in tip-top condition.
In-house specials and seasonal ales have been added and the food offering also received attention, with the resulting menu winning many plaudits.
The award was won due to the dedication shown by Ben and Louise, with the help of their staff, in making the pub a better place to be and in particular to acknowledge their efforts with the traditional beers.
