A CONMAN has stolen hundreds of pounds from elderly residents across the Spen Valley by claiming to be a public official.
Police have issued an e-fit of the suspect and warned people they should not be fooled by his claims.
It comes after £500 was stolen from the home of a 93-year-old man on Leeds Old Road in Heckmondwike last Monday.
Another victim, aged 86, had £240 stolen from his wallet and a cash tin at his home on Westfield Way in the town around 4pm next day.
Earlier last Tuesday two people had lucky escapes when the suspect, who speaks with an Irish accent, arrived at their homes.
He asked to inspect a property on Valley Road, Liversedge, for damage and demanded £12,000 for repairs.
The suspect then went to Thomas Street and claimed payment was needed for work on a roof. He fled empty-handed both times.
The suspect is white, in his 40s or 50s and about 5ft 7in tall.
Anyone with information can call Sgt Mark Gregory at Dewsbury CID on 101.
