MIRFIELD’S ‘best-kept secret’ is throwing opening its doors to celebrate a major anniversary.
Members at Knowl Club are hosting a special weekend of fun events to mark the premises’ 125th birthday, and to let people know what they have to offer.
Established in July 1888 as Mirfield Liberal Club, Knowl Club was taken on by a new committee of volunteers last October who have breathed new life into the venue.
The building was upgraded, redecorated and cleaned and the club is thriving once again thanks to the support of its members.
The club is also open to non-members, a fact that the committee wants to promote as many people in the town don’t realise that they’re welcome to visit at any time.
There’s a snooker room, a function room available for hire and major sporting events are always shown on the big screen.
To mark the 125th anniversary the club will open tomorrow morning (Sat) at 10am for the deciding British Lions test, and there will be a family disco from 5pm as well as a mini beer festival, with eight beers on offer over the weekend.
There’s also a raffle with a £125 first prize and many other items donated by local businesses.
