Town’s market force is launched

Issue 580

A NEW food and craft market is being launched in Ossett tomorrow (Saturday).

The event, organised by the Building Ossett Better (BOB) campaign, takes place in the Market Place from 10am to 4pm.

The market will run on the last Saturday of each month, with a classic car show and Maypole dancing booked for May.

BOB, founded two years ago, became a not-for-profit social enterprise company in February.

Members aim to boost trade in the town, with all proceeds from events going to fund other community activities.

One project in December was a Christmas festival featuring a children’s choir, ukulele minstrels, brass band and late-night town centre shopping.

Other work has included ‘Flock to Ossett’ in support of traders, last year’s Olympic Rings world record attempt and a herb trail.

John Whiteman, of BOB, said: “The group has expanded its membership to residents, organisations, societies, clubs and the business community. This expansion has resulted in BOB working on a number of interesting projects and initiatives.

“We’re keen to promote these activities as a feel-good boost to our high street shops and to Ossett in general.”
