Traders lay on Halloween fun

Issue 550

HUNDREDS of excited youngsters got into the spirit with a series of Hallowe’en events at Dewsbury Market on Wednesday.

There was a spookythemed craft workshop, free facepainting and a trickortreat trail around the stalls.

Top of the bill was Harry Potter’s teacher, Professor McGonagall, who came all the way from Hogwarts to perform magic tricks.

A Hallowe’en tea party was then held at the sports centre, which also featured games and a fancy dress competition.

Tots from Dewsbury nursery Child’s Play were among those who attended the free events, which was organised by market traders and Kirklees Council.

Deputy nursery manager Amy Jasiewicz said: “The children had great fun getting dressed up. There were witches, Frankenstein and even Dracula.”

Trish Makepeace, of the Market Traders’ Association, said: “This event just builds and builds every year.

“We worked with the town centre management to give something back to the community as a thank you for their custom.”
