Six charged in sex attacks on girl aged 15

Issue 493

SIX ASIAN men have been charged with the sexual exploitation of a 15yearold girl in Ravensthorpe.
They were arrested on Tuesday as part of a longrunning Dewsbury CID investigation called Operation Tamarin.
All six appeared at Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for a crown court committal hearing.
Four are from Ravensthorpe and one from Dewsbury while Larasab Hussain, 45, who fled to Pakistan, is from Thornhill Lees.
They are accused of attacking the girl, who cannot be identified, at a home in Sackville Street, Ravensthorpe, between May 10 and May 13 2010.
No pleas were entered by any of the men and the case was referred to Leeds Crown Court for a hearing on Wednesday October 12.
Ali Rehman, 26, of Tanhouse Street, Ravensthorpe is charged with three counts of rape and one of attempted rape.
Wahid Hussain, 19, of Broomer Street, Ravensthorpe, and Hasan Rehman, 18, of Tanhouse Street, Ravensthope, are accused of attempted rape.
Larasab Hussain, of Headfield Road, Thornhill Lees, and Saqib Hussain, 21, of Huddersfield Road, Ravensthorpe, are charged with sexual assault.
The sixth man, 23yearold Faifar Younis, of Textile Street, Dewsbury, is charged with rape. All six spoke only to confirm their names and addresses.
Andy Wills, prosecuting, said Larasab Hussain fled to Pakistan and was only arrested after he returned to Britain recently. He appeared from custody and was remanded back there after the hearing. No application for bail was made.
Larasab Hussain, sporting a grey beard, yellow top and beige cap in court, is accused of touching the girl sexually and without consent.
Wahid Hussain, who allegedly tried to perform a sex act on the girl, and Saqib Hussain, accused of sexually touching her, both got conditional bail.
Saqib Hussain, wearing a blue and red check shirt underneath a grey sports jacket, attended court with a translator. The other three were remanded into custody for the Leeds Crown Court date. Those on bail are not allowed to contact the girl.
Operation Taramin was an operation between Dewsbury CID and the Safeguarding Unit, which is a joint police/Kirklees Council body launched after officers were alerted to the allegations in May last year.
