A diamond idea comes to family fruition

Issue 468

BROTHER and sister Keith and Deborah Fox are launching their first businesses side by side in Mirfield town centre.
Deborah’s Shoely Scrumptious children’s shoe shop opened on Huddersfield Road three weeks ago and has proved a quickfire success.
And on Saturday – in the same newlyrestored premises – Keith opened K.S. Fox jewellers, specialising in repairs and manufacture of gold and silver jewellery.
Keith, 36, said: “It’s great to be doing this as a family. People say it’s a difficult time to launch a business but the opportunity came up and we took it.”
Keith and Deborah, who both attended Mirfield High School, are from a wellknown Mirfield business family.
Their new ventures have been backed by mum and dad Carole and Keith.
The couple bought the rundown shop premises and former builder and joiner Keith, 67, spent seven months renovating the place almost singlehandedly.
Wife Carole put in the hours too, with the painstaking restoration of an exposed stone wall.
The shop has the ‘wow factor’ and Keith senior said: “That’s the effect we wanted to create. We wanted people to go out talking about it.”
Word has rapidly spread and Carole said: “We have had lots of compliments and people are delighted there is a shop like this in Mirfield.
“They have told us it is just what the town needs.”
Shoely Scrumptious has a big selection of distinctive designer shoes, practical school shoes and a range of affordable shoes.
Deborah offers a full measuring and fitting service and caters for children not yet walking to those at the end of their primary years.
There is a loyalty card scheme and 10 per cent off a first purchase.
Brands include Geox shoes and clothing, Birkenstock, Primigi and Pom D’api.
Meanwhile K.S. Fox offers a full repair and restoration service for gold, silver and other precious metals and sells designer jewellery by such as Trollbeads, Jo for Girls and Giorgio Martello.
There is also a bespoke jewellery service and Keith will make items to a customer’s design.
Visit the shops at 81 Huddersfield Road near the HSBC bank.
