Angela set marshal protest troops

Issue 440

CAMPAIGNERS in Ossett are marshalling their troops for a protest against Wakefield Council.
While Angela Taylor’s campaign has so far been aimed at keeping open the Owl Lane tip on the OssettDewsbury border, a groundswell of anticouncil feeling has built up.
People in Ossett are angry at Wakefield Council’s continued neglect of the town.
They say the council’s plans to shut the tip and replace it with a gipsy site shows the council’s contempt for Ossett.
Mrs Taylor, who this week handed in a 2,000signature petition against the gipsy site along with 663 letters of objection, urged people to turn out in force tomorrow (Sat).
“If the council has money to spend on facilities for gipsies and travellers then where is the money to spend on providing facilities for the residents of Ossett?”
The Ossett marchers will set off from Ossett Town Hall at 2pm and go up Kingsway and along Leeds Road, crossing Ossett Bypass on the footbridge before heading into Owl Lane. Those who can’t join the march can meet for the 3pm rally at Dewsbury Rams’ Tetley Stadium.
