Batley nightclub raided by cops

Issue 416

A NEW nightclubs licence is under threat after underage drinkers were found inside.

Police visited Mr Gs Bottle Bar in Bradford Road, Batley, on Saturday night and found drinkers as young as 15.

The party, which was in full swing, was not due to end until 6am but the club only has a licence until 4am, police said.

Police found several small plastic bags in the womens toilets which contained a white powder. Samples have been sent for forensic analysis.

Police have issued a closure notice on the premises under the Criminal Justice and Police Act which bans any further activity at Mr Gs until the breaches are rectified.

Police raided the bar following complaints from residents in the area about antisocial behaviour, underage drinking and suspected drug dealing.

Kirklees Polices licensing officer Sgt John McFadzean said: We responded to the concerns of local people who were unhappy about the running of the club.

Checks on social networking websites revealed that this particular event was widely circulated among youngsters who are still at school.

A review of the licensing conditions and activities is to be heard by Kirklees Councils licensing committee within the next month.
