Bag snatch victim of 104 dies

Issue 412

A WOMAN of 104 who had her bag stolen by conmen has died four weeks later.

Relatives of Lydia Atack said the popular old lady just lost the will to live.

Mrs Atack walked in to find two men in her flat at Beamount Court in Mount Pleasant at 3pm on Sunday January 17.

They said they were reading a meter but when they left Mrs Atack discovered her handbag missing. Her daughter Margaret Scatchard, 72, of Birstall, said her mother became a recluse after the attack, stopped eating and ended up in a care home.

Before that she had looked after herself well and went to bingo twice a week.

Mrs Scatchard said her mother had previously been in good health but the doctor feared she had lost the will to live.

She said she blamed the two men, describing them as despicable creatures and appealed for help in catching them.

The men were said to be white and aged between 30 and 50.

If you can help, call police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
