Window of opportunity opens for local cleaning firms

WINDOW cleaners around the district are being encouraged to bid for Kirklees Council contracts.

A deal with In Depth Management Services and Mitie Facilities Management is due to end on October 1.

They clean a range of council buildings, from schools to libraries, offices and community centres. A new contract is being split into four zones, including North West Kirklees (Batley and Spen) and North East Kirklees (Mirfield and Dewsbury).

There will be a further non-geographic contract covering town halls, markets, medium-rise offices and housing.

Companies, who can find out more at a meeting in Huddersfield today (Fri), can bid for all five or select them individually.

Kirklees Council cabinet member for resources Coun David Sheard (Lab, Heckmondwike) said he hopes it opens the process up to new bidders.

He added: “The contract had been split to provide greater flexibility and open up opportunities for smaller suppliers.

"We hope this contract will appeal to window cleaning companies based in Kirklees who may not previously have worked with the council."

The Huddersfield meeting is a drop-in session from 9am to 1pm on April 26 at the Kirkgate Buildings in Byram Street.

Businesses will be able apply for the tender on the council’s free web portal at http://www.yortender.co.uk from May 1.
