Red carpet treatment...

GOMERSAL’S Red House Museum has benefited from a donation from Birstall-based PPG Industries.

PPG manufactures paint brands Johnstone’s and Leyland from its Huddersfield Road HQ, where it has been since 1983.

The company employs over 1,500 people throughout the UK and Ireland and over 40,000 globally.

Funds donated by the company have been used to purchase a new carpet for the staircase and landing at the historic house on Oxford Road.

Last year PPG Industries gave Oakwell Hall and Red House a gift of £19,000 as part of the company’s charitable contributions programme.

The donation was used to support a programme of events and activities for local people.

Part of this money was also to be used to help with refurbishments and repairs at both properties, and £1,300 has been used to replace the stair carpet at Red House, which had become very worn over the years.

Coun Peter O’Neill, Kirklees Cabinet member for Wellbeing and Communities, said: “We have had some lovely comments from visitors and staff and I would like to thank PPG for funding this carpet as it will be an attractive feature of the house for years to come. I hope it will also feature in the photos from some of the forthcoming weddings at Red House.”
