"Power Plus" is growing fast!

A SUCCESSFUL electrical contracting firm launched from a kitchen table has expanded into new premises in Ossett.
Power Plus was set up by electrician Jimmy Robinson from his home  but grew quickly.
The firm, started in September 2005, moved to premises at Providence Mills in Rouse Mill Lane, Batley, but soon outgrew them.
Last week they moved to bigger premises on the Ashley Industrial Estate in Wakefield Road, Ossett, and further expansion is planned.
The firm, fire alarm, security and electrical contractors, now employs five people and has 10 subcontractors.
Jimmy, 39, of Hanging Heaton, said: “I have been in subcontracting for the last 14 years and it was a lucky break that got me started on my own.
“I got to know and work with a businessman who ran a shopfitting company and he said that if ever I set up on my own he would put all his electrical work my way.
“And cutting a long story short that’s what happened.”
Jimmy started his business from home and growth was rapid.
In 2007 he teamed up with fire alarms expert Jon Field, who bought into the business and became a codirector. The two men then brought in Michael Stables as business manager to help run the firm.
“Eventually we outgrew the premises in Batley,” said Jimmy.
“We had no storage space and our office was crammed with scaffolding, lightfittings and boxes. Now in Ossett we have much more space and our office environment is 1,000 times better.”
Once the firm has settled into its new premises, there are plans to expand into electrical wholesaling, supplying electrical contractors.
“We are not going out there to compete with other electrical contractors, we want to work with them and offer a onestop shop for their fire system needs,” said Jimmy.
“We have all the accreditation and we can offer technical advice and help, as well as supplying the products and materials.
“We want to promote good practice. When it comes to fire alarms it is all about saving lives.” Power Plus can be contacted on 01924 267444.
