Mirfield firm gets back on track

A Mirfield building firm been brought back from the brink of collapse after joining a construction organisation and forging links with other companies.

John Croft, of Croft & Son Ltd, says he joined Construction & Housing Yorkshire as a “last shake of the dice”.

The move saved the business after Mr Croft made contact with key industry figures and won new contacts.

Since becoming a member of the organisation – partof regeneration charity re’new – Mr Croft has been introduced to key players in the regional construction and housing sectors, plus given  help filling out tenders and prequalification documents.

He said: “Things weren’t going well, and in 2010 I was introduced to Construction & Housing Yorkshire.

“It was a last shake of the dice and, it’s fair to say it has proved to be a very wise move

“Thanks to Construction & Housing Yorkshire, we have been introduced to key people in the sector, in addition to receiving help and advice filling in tender documents.

“The last three years we have seen significant signs of business growth.

“We are now working with a number of housing associations and local authorities, undertaking a variety of different jobs.

“We are busy, which still in the current climate, is encouraging.

“I would certainly recommend others to join Construction & Housing Yorkshire, particularly SMEs like ourselves.

“It has proved to be a real life line for us and has helped open a number of doors.”
