Ladies at the double at the Mill

A NEW business networking event in Batley which allows delegates to go shopping has been hailed as a boost to trade.
More than 60 women from firms including HSBC and Revell Ward attended the Better Business Browse conference at The Mill last Thursday.
Kirklees Council joined forces with the Bradford Road shopping centre to offer them a place to meet plus some exclusive offers.
The women are all members of Local Ladies, which is a group of business leaders from around Kirklees and Calderdale who meet to share ideas.
Paula Hammerton, The Mill’s marketing manager, said the event not only brought top executives to Batley but also got them to spend money.
She said: “Our retail sales were well up on the usual takings for a Thursday night. Traders have asked if we can make this a regular event.”
Kirklees Council cabinet member for regeneration Coun David Sheard (Lab, Heckmondwike) also hailed the turnout.
He said: “It was very well attended. Business people clearly welcome the chance to network and support one another.
“Over the next few years we will more dependant on the private sector to create jobs. We will do all we can to support them. The next Better Business Browse event will be at The Mill in November. For more details see the www.batleyanddewsbury.co.uk website.
