Council launches business support

A NEW online business support website has been launched to help Kirklees-based small to medium-sized businesses.

The council’s new Business Hub Kirklees site offers specialist support and assistance to local firms. It brings together the latest information on funding and contract opportunities, business news and events, and access to local experts who can answer questions, all in one place.

It is part of Kirklees’ strategy to support and encourage business growth in the area.

The hub offers companies free advice from local experts in marketing, finance and legal services, lists contract and tender opportunities, includes a free business directory and helps businesses work out their eligibility and apply for the latest rounds of grants and funding.

Speaking about the council’s new offer for businesses, Coun Peter McBride, cabinet member for investment and regeneration said: “We have adopted an ambitious economic strategy for Kirklees, which sets out very clearly our plans to support economic growth.

“A key factor in helping businesses grow is making sure that they have access to the right information and advice, at the right time, and in the most convenient way possible.

“When you take all that into account, it’s clear that a single online system which brings together the latest grants and funding rounds, contracting and tender opportunities, information on land and premises and expert peer-to-peer advice, is the most effective way to give businesses what they need, when they need it.”

The launch of the Hub is also supported by a series of Business Hub Live events at various venues across the district, where businesses get to meet advisors face-to-face and hear a guest speaker focus on a particular topic.

The first event takes place on Friday September 30 at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield and features Roger Marsh, chairman of the Leeds Local Enterprise Partnership.

Over breakfast, attendees can hear about the LEP’s latest plans for supporting business growth across the region, and be able to speak to various business support organisations and advocates in person.
