Beadelicious shining through the recession

A GIFT shop in Mirfield has been such a success despite lean economic times that the owners have expanded to open a second store.
Beadelicious, run by husband and wife Rob and Donna Coe, has a new branch near the post office in Morley’s main shopping precinct.
It sells similar high class handbags, jewellery, accessories and cards to those which made the shop in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, such a hit.
Rob and Donna opened Beadelicious in December 2009 and it took off even as other shops were struggling in the downturn.
Donna said: “I think the success has been partly down to the recession. People have less money and so they’re being more choosy.
“They’re also staying local to cut down on travelling costs.
“And if they do spend, they’d rather buy quality.”
Donna makes some of the cards and jewellery herself and sources the rest from bespoke local manufacturers and studios.
She said the Mirfield store’s success was driven by customers who came in looking for particular things that Donna either made specially or ordered.
The same focus applies to the Morley shop and Donna said: “We’ve noticed already that people in Morley want particular things.
“Smaller items, like bespoke accessories and cards, are big sellers.
“We may concentrate on that depending on what customers tell us.”
Both Beadelicious branches are open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.
