Ann's Angle

I recently met with Simon Weston OBE who told me all about his latest charity single, with tenor Russell Watson, which is out now. He revealed: “The CD version includes both the radio edit and the full version of the HOMEGROUND Anthem, with an added bonus me reading Strange Meeting by Wilfred Owen.

“I was quite nervous, you know but thanks to Russell I really got into the swing of it in the end.”

Why not just go and treat yourself and help a worthwhile cause…

Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent tells me that her character Sophie is set to start sleeping rough in the show. “It’s a dramatic storylineand will give me a chance to show I can act ... I am so grateful that we’re taking Sophie down a darker road, it should be very exciting.”

Former The Bill actor Alex Walkinshaw is leaving the BBC’s long-running medical drama Casualty, but he’s not going far, he will be joining the sister show Holby City. He tells me: “It was a great opportunity to extend the life of the character, and I know my fans will be pleased as they have taken him to their hearts.”

Sir Tom Jones is still keen to stay on as a judge on The Voice. He tells me “I love the show and we all enjoy it actually, plus I am seen as the veteran judge which is no bad thing now is it, after all I have been around for years.”

X Factor winner Sam Bailey landed her much sought after number one slot in the album charts, but insiders tell me that while it’s a great feat the album only actually sold a mere 73,000, which at reduced sales price will not be keeping boss Simon Cowell too happy.

EastEnders’ Timothy West tells me how Stan goes from a hospital bed to a bed at the Vic. “I actually broke my ankle in real life, just as filming started which was annoying, so they had the great idea of writing that into the script, which was very kind of them, and so here I am at the famous Queen Victoria pub…”

Danny Dyer tells me that stories of him in the media being told off by soap bosses for various things, are simply not true. “I am who I am and they know that ... I like to mouth off on Twitter, but you know that gets interest in the show too, which I know they are very happy about.”

Soon to depart the breakfast show, host Aled Jones tells me he won’t miss the early starts on Daybreak. “I have really enjoyed the show, and all the fun we had hosting together with Lorraine, but truthfully you never get used to getting up at 3.45am do you...?”

Richard E Grant the super posh actor is joining the hit ITV drama “Downton Abbey” in the next series, which is filming now, but he tells me that he has no idea if his character is upstairs or downstairs. “I am just thrilled to be part of this great show, and to be acting with Dame Maggie is a real joy.”

Coronation Street star Michelle Collins has said she feels people wanted her to fail in the soap before she even appeared. “I was shocked at the interest to be honest.but I tried my best with the accent, but I really was blasted from every corner ... I had no option, but to just ride it out and smile on” she revealed.

SCD co-host Claudia Winkleman is not sure if she will be back for the new series as “I have no contract as yet, but they never do sign us up this early to be honest  ... I love the show and will be there like a shot if they need me.”

Tennis champ Andy Murray may just find that his mum Judy could soon to be taking to the dance floor in SCD a source tells me. “She would be ideal and of course we can look forward to Andy popping along to support her, while she waltzes too.”

Piers Morgan may have been fired from his American chat show on CNN but there seems to be no escape from his own brand of self-publicity. “ I may set up my own channel as I think that way I can actually do the interviews, I know people really want to see which is always been my aim,” he says.

Dermot O’Leary tells me that he has already signed up for this year’s X Factor and will resume filming in the early summer. “As far as I am aware, I think the whole team is back and that is no bad thing, but as ever it’s the audience who are the stars of the show…”

Gary Barlow has insisted that Nicole Scherzinger should return to The X Factor, saying she is a hard-working judge who gives her all. “She really enjoys the experience too, and takes a hands on approach, so I do think the show will miss her when it returns.”

ITV has confirmed Alan Titchmarsh’s latest project – a three-part series unearthing Britain’s best domestic gardens. Alan who has seen his afternoon chat show axed after low ratings, claims he is returning to his first love.

Davina McCall tells me she feels sorry for the comedian Michael McIntyre who has launched his own chat show. “I attempted the same thing and was blasted by the critics which was not nice, but moreso I found it harder to have another go at something else, so I say give him some grace.”

BBC drama Waterloo Road is to be axed following a 10th series after ‘reaching the end of its life cycle’. Insiders had no idea that this was going to be the case, but a friend tells me that since the production moved further north costs have really rocketed.

Loose Women panellist Myleene Klass can leave the studios in even more style after treating herself to a new £83,000 Mercedes G350, but is finding parking in London very difficult.
