Ann's Angle

Eamonn Holmes is to step down as anchor of Sky News’ breakfast show, Sunrise.

He told me the reason was simple: “I have been getting up at 4am for over 30 years now, and fancied a change. I will still be on This Morning and many other shows, but not on Sky every morning which I am sad about, but something had to give.”

Coronation Street’s Colson Smith (Craig) has revealed that he dreams of one day landing the role of James Bond. The red-haired actor, 18, has embarked upon a new fitness regime to help him achieve his goal – and it seems to be working as he’s already lost three stone. He told me: “I think anyone who is on TV looks at themselves, and I have, but I am enjoying the new fitness regime for sure.”

Sherrie Hewson has revealed she is planning a ‘Hollywood adventure’ after her  exit from Loose Women. She told me: “I have a few pals over there, and they told me at my age now there is work and I can get it, so I am trying for my Hollywood dream. I am going to be laughed at, but why not, it’s what I wanted to do many years ago anyway.”

Movie veteran Robert Wagner, 86, has composed a new memoir: I Loved Her in The Movies. Robert, who famously starred in the hit 80s show ‘Hart To Hart’, told me at the launch party: “I still act, even though I am now almost as old as cinema itself, but again it’s looking for the right roles.”

The BBC’s opening show of Strictly Come Dancing 2016 – which saw the celebrity contestants paired with their pro dancers – attracted an average of 9.3 million viewers (46.4 per cent share) and a peak of 10.1 million. Many fans, though, are baffled by Claudia Winkleman. She jumps, skits and looks badly made-up on screen, as many wonder why she has the job. Could her once-famous mother be the reason?

Ross Kemp, who plays Grant Mitchell in EastEnders, says he may not return to the soap again as: “I am getting older, and I think it may look a bit sad to be playing this out-of-shape hardman, strutting around the square and doing all that staring and stuff, but it was fun while it lasted.”

Ex-soap star Martine McCutcheon may now be a regular on Loose Women, but she claims she will be returning to music at some stage. “I love to sing, and was pretty successful at it for a time, so hopefully in the future something new will happeN,” she said.

Timothy Spall, Celia Imrie, Joanna Lumley and Imelda Staunton are to star in a new British rom-com aimed at older audiences. Finding Your Feet is set around a London dance class and aims to tap into the spending power of the older generation, dubbed the ‘grey pound’.

Actor Bobby Davro tells me he loved playing Vince in EastEnders, but left because: “In reality I am a comedian and that is what I wanted to do. I enjoy acting, but comedy is more for me, yet I keep getting asked to appear on reality TV shows which is mad really.”

ITV gameshow 500 Questions, hosted by the charmless Giles Coren, got off to an underwhelming start, beaten by the fourth series opener of Ripper Street on BBC Two. A source at ITV tells me they don’t assume the show will be back for a second run, due to the disappointing figures.

Marty Wilde, may have been a teen idol of the 50s, but his youngest daughter Roxanne is keeping the showbiz bug going. She is now a backing singer for Kylie Minogue while on tour and told me: “I will become a solo star myself one day, but for now I do enjoy doing this.”

Loose Women panellist Nadia Sawalha has claimed that the only time she was asked to take part in Strictly Come Dancing was when she weighed more. The SCD team hit back, saying: “We can’t actually remember offering Nadia the chance to be on the show, but if she can show us anything we would be grateful.”

Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod confirmed in March that Chas and Cain’s chaotic mum Faith would be returning to the show with a new actress in the role. He recently told me: “I think she can be dynamite in the village, and we will get to see how much she has shaped the children’s lives and how they have turned out.”

Coronation Street’s Eileen Derbyshire left our screens as Emily back on New Year’s Day, with producers revealing that she was taking a break for at least six months. Now fans are left wondering when she will return, if ever. So far ITV have decided not to confirm a return date for her.
