Ann's Angle

Best known for sitting alongside her real-life husband on This Morning, Ruth Langsford has now landed a regular hosting role on Loose Women. Ruth tells me: “It’s a great honour for me being on the show, and I cant believe it. I know we have some great guests lined up, and for me what a wonderful start to a new year.”

Pippa Middleton has apparently been approached about a stint on Strictly Come Dancing, but has so far not said yes or no. “She is a huge fan of the show, and we just hope to tempt her in,” my source reveals.

Sir Bruce Forsyth tells me there will be no speculation of him not returning to the world of ballroom in 2014, as: “I have already signed the deal, so this year they can’t start with the ‘will he, won’t he’ stuff. I am so happy it’s all been resolved so quickly too.”

ITV is developing a new weekend breakfast format for children.

Scrambled! will be produced by the team behind Holly & Stephen’s Saturday Showdown, and it will air in early 2014.

Coronation Street actor Philip Lowrie is set to make a dramatic departure from the soap in 2014 following an ‘explosive’ storyline for his character Dennis Tanner. Philip, 77, first appeared in the soap in 1960 – and his exit means that for the first time in Corrie’s 53-year history there will be no original cast members on the cobbles.

Cheryl Cole may have made a cameo in Coronation Street for charity, but even she admits: “I would need acting lessons if I were to be considered for more roles, but I was in awe just being in the Rovers with all the faces I have watched for years, it really was great fun...”

Harry Hill may be looking at a ‘Keith Lemon’ moment at the box office with his debut movie, and he told a friend: “I just hope someone finds it funny ... it’s meant to be funny.”

Emmerdale actress Lucy Pargeter has been left reeling over cruel comments about her age while in the celebrity jungle. “Of course I looked rough, I mean no slap, shower or hair, what do people expect?” she said.

While upper crust actor/writer / director Julian Fellowes has enjoyed huge success with his period drama Downton Abbey, his venture into films has been less so with his latest Romeo & Juliet effort failing at the box office. Friends reveal: “We just hope we make some profit back at the DVD sales, but it’s a huge disaster given his high profile.”

Former boyband member Matt Willis, who was once a part of Busted, is joining EastEnders and also appearing in the revamped Birds of a Feather on ITV. He told me backstage: “Hopefully if the series comes back, I can get some time off to do that as well as I really enjoyed performing comedy.”

It appears that one-time professional policeman and now TV pundit Rav Wilding was ‘let go’ from ITV diving programme Splash after a minor injury before the show got going. Rav tells me: “I am upset as I had been swimming for weeks in order to get fit for the show.”

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly won’t be idle now the series is over – she tells me she is working on her second novel after the first was well received. “It’s a hard thing sitting down daily and typing, but I imagine myself to be like Agatha Christie and plotting plots, it’s been great fun,” she said.

You may have noticed that the now-famous annual Hollyoaks calendars have been missing from the shelves this festive season. TV bosses claim it’s because they have a huge cast list now, and can’t decide who they should use, but friends tell me that the last few years have not been great sellers so they decided to give it a rest this year.

X Factor winner Sam Bailey reveals she would be much happier if she was allowed to sing in her jogging pants and t-shirt on stage. “I am not into all that glamour, as I come from a club background and you just get up and sing,” she said. “So it’s not really me at the end of the day, making a fuss.”

Keith also told me he would love to appear on the show again as: “I like the way he dips in and out of the show, and it’s very believable.”

It could be all change on The X Factor panel in 2014 after a source close to the show hinted that Nicole Scherzinger might not be returning. A source at ITV tells me “No deals have been offered as the ratings have been so bad, and no final decision will be made until around spring time so for now, yes, she is in limbo.”
