Ann's Angle

Former Emmerdale star Patsy Kensit recently told me, while overlooking the Houses of Parliament in London, that: “I would not say no to returning as Sadie King in Emmerdale. I truly loved playing her, and she is not dead you know, she could easily return, maybe even for a short stint.” Patsy has a new book out called Absolute Beginner, which is a super read and an ideal Christmas stocking filler...

Spin-off Downton Abbey products may not be selling that well here in the UK, but in the US it’s another story, with many items already sold out. A source reveals: “The US have lapped up the products and really enjoy everything about the show, including the mugs and soap items.”

Matt Baker says landing the role as a presenter on Blue Peter was a cinch back in the day, but would not be as easy today as: “It was all more innocent, basically you sent in a tape and bang – you were auditioning. Now you would have to go through a totally different process to land such a job.”

Strictly Come Dancing star Craig Revel Horwood has claimed that there were secret romances on last year's series.

The choreographer admitted that some of the 2012 cast, which included eventual winner Louis Smith, Kimberley Walsh, Denise Van Outen and Dani Harmer, got together behind the scenes. Let’s also note that he has a new book out...

Britain’s Got Talent has already started with the quest to make you the star of next year’s show, but it’s not just ‘normal’ people they are looking at now. A source tells me: “The show is basically open to professionals and semi-professionals now, so it’s more of a basic TV talent show in the style of New Faces, or Opportunity Knocks.”

Remember Butch Dingle in Emmerdale? The actor who played him, Paul Ryder, is now a full-time teacher in Blackburn. He tells me: “I still act when I get the chance, but I don’t want to wait around for the phone to go, and this is a career I have always admired so I went for it.”

Holby City star Tina Hobley, who plays Chrissie in the show, has decided to leave and is moving into the world of radio presenting on a commercial station. She tells me: “After leaving the show I just wanted a new challenge and this is a great opportunity.”

Classic sitcom Open All Hours is returning for a 30-minute one-off Christmas special, starring Sir David Jason. Called ‘Still Open All Hours’, the BBC special will see David reprising his role of Granville who, alongside his son, now runs the grocery store inherited from his uncle Albert Arkwright, played by Ronnie Barker in the original series. If it’s a success it may return for a full series...

The Great British Bake Off may soon be over, but fear not as there will be a Christmas special, and of course a Comic Relief episode next year. Dawn French is now a judge on Australia’s Got Talent and admits that she has been bitten by the reality TV bug. “It’s refreshing and exciting to think you can change someone’s life with a yes or no on stage,” she said. “I do enjoy finding new talent, it’s really pleasing when you find someone with it.”

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Flavia Cacace has hit out at critics of the show’s ageing host, Bruce Forsyth. Showbiz legend Bruce came under fire from BBC insiders earlier this month for his “cheesy gags” and for struggling to remember the show's running order. “He is brilliant on the show, and does such a good job; some people just pick on anything,” Flavia tells me.
