Splash with Tom Daly may be returning to ITV in the new year, but show bosses say finding any star willing to don a swimsuit and have a go is tough. I heard: “It’s the hardest reality show because you have to be willing to give it a go, and that can be hard on live TV...”

Miley Cyrus will be among the guests performing on the forthcoming X Factor live finals – but she has reportedly been warned to ‘keep it clean’. The 20-year-old Disney star turned chart-topper made headlines all over the world during her performance at the VMA Awards last month.

The One Show host Alex Jones says that having her distinctive Welsh accent on screen helps people to remember her. “I think at first people found it difficult, but now you know they accept it and I think they like it in most cases,” she said.

ITV had great hopes for a show called ‘The Marriage Ref’ which was hosted by Dermot O’Leary, but it appears that it won’t be returning after all. A source tells me: “I think it was a good idea from the US, but it failed to take off here in the UK, so it’s axed.”

Catherine Tate has revealed that she would be more than happy to return to Doctor Who in the future. When the 45-year-old actress was asked whether she would ever reprise her role as companion Donna Noble in the series, Catherine replied: “Yes, I would be more than happy to, just never been asked as yet.”

For fans of Strictly Come Dancing and the famous Tower Ballroom in Blackpool – that very special live show will come from the resort on Saturday November 16. Sir Bruce tells me: “I love playing the Ballroom, as it has so much atmosphere and they all want to do well there, don’t they?”

Paul O’Grady pops up in medical drama Holby City soon and tells me: “I love to act. I got my big break in The Bill years ago, but I think in this country that once you start as something you are just that, but I can become someone else quite easily, and I have proved that with Lily Savage.”

One-time queen of This Morning, Fern Britton, is hoping to come back to mainstream TV after her failed Channel 4 chat show with ... a gardening show. Based on the same idea as the Great British Bake Off, the host will judge gardens, plants and water features across the UK.

Ant & Dec have dropped huge hints that their famous barnets may have had a bit of a helping hand. Ant (the dark one) tells me: “Let’s just say I am nearing 40 now and, well, I won’t lie, we do look at treatments, but we are not committing to anything...”

Corrie’s Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Stella’s daughter Eva in the soap, has no idea if she will be kept on now that Michelle Collins has decided to quit. She said: “It’s odd when they split a soap family up, but I am just hoping that they see there is much more to my character and let me stay.”

Channel Four has ordered a celebrity skiing show from the producers of Splash. Celebrities will take on winter sports in The Alpine Games, which will air in early 2014 ahead of the broadcaster’s coverage of the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

Len Goodman tells me his ideal Strictly contestant would be Barry Humphries – but in his creations of Dame Edna and Sir Les. “It would be a riot I think with those two on, but I do wonder about the style of dresses they may wear,” he laughed.
