Ann's Angle

TV presenter and radio queen Vanessa Feltz admitted to me at the Strictly Come Dancing launch at Elstree Studios: “I must be crazy doing this, but my daughters think it’s a great show and so do I. “But now having said yes, I admit I can’t dance a step so really the only way is up!” Will Vanessa became your favourite this year? Only time will tell...

X Factor judge Gary Barlow tells me that the panel is far better this year. Hinting he may not have got on that well with previous judge Tulisa, he confessed: “It’s a more mature look this year and we have all done something at some stage, so yes the feeling is good now.”

Former X Factor winners Little Mix have announced they will be releasing their own make-up range. The band are partnering with cosmetics brand Collection to create the new products, which will be out in time for the festive season.

Tamzin Outhwaite is to join Peep Show’s Robert Webb and Miranda actress Sarah Hadland in a London production of the play Raving. Raving plays at London’s Hampstead Theatre from October 24 to November 23.

Downton Abbey newcomer Nigel Harman has revealed that his character on the show will have few redeeming features. The former EastEnders actor, who played Dennis Rickman in the soap, is due to make his debut in the new series later this month as visiting valet Mr Green. But he told me that fans of the show shouldn’t necessarily be taken in by the newcomer’s charms...

Abigail’s Party actress Alison Steadman is attached to a new TV comedy project called Grey Mates. Insiders reports that Miss Steadman will star in a pilot episode of the sitcom, which is based around ‘an elderly friendship group’. The comedy will focus on three couples as they meet up for social events.

Former Eastenders actress Martine McCutcheon would not be averse to joining another soap. “I have never done it as yet, but I see quite a few people are,” she said. “Now the time has passed where the memory of Tiffany has faded, so it does leave options open for doing something like that.”

Are we seeing less of Doc Martin actor Martin Clunes, who has shed over a stone of late? He tells me: “I managed to land a viral infection while filming which resulted in this dramatic weight loss, but I am fine and thankfully look fitter than ever, which is a bonus.”

Late 90s boy band Blue, now back on ITV with the Big Reunion, tell me they were as good as One Direction in their day. “If not better to be honest,” laughed Duncan. “I looked at some old shows and we were good you know, and gave a really good show. They have a lot to live up to...”

Coronation Street stars David Neilson and Julie Hesmondhalgh have been spotted filming special scenes for the soap in Blackpool. Playing Roy and Hayley, it is revealed: “They win a holiday, and in true Coronation Street tradition decide that there is no better place to go for a quick break...”

Rupert Penry Jones, who stars in the hit drama ‘Whitechapel’, tells me that he loves the fact that the team never really catch anyone. “I think people are now starting to take notice, but the programme is a dark drama, and not always about the results,” he said.

‘X Factor: The Musical’ was launched recently, but it appears that the phones are yet to be ringing off the hook at the London Palladium box office.

Friends tell me: “It’s a huge theatre and something like this maybe more suited to a small fringe-type place to start with. It will have to be full nightly to make any money...”

Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly have failed to raise the ratings on Daybreak, despite Lorraine being on a very high salary. So far bosses are happy to review the situation in the new year, but sources admit: “After the disaster of Adrian and Christine they can’t afford to pay any more out.”

EastEnders actor Scott Malsan, who plays Jack Branning in the soap, is hoping to have a go at Hollywood soon, but first he’s starring as the Genie of the Lamp in panto this festive season in Bournemouth. Oh yes he is...

Through The Keyhole landed back on ITV last week, this time with Keith Lemon in the chair, but insiders tell me that the show didn’t do so well in the ratings, and now bosses plan to scale back on the use of the host and focus more on the celebrity homes. After all, that’s what made it a hit.

Coach Trip is returning to Channel 4 for a ninth series, it has been confirmed. The daytime reality show has been on hiatus since early 2012, but Channel 4 has now revived the cult TV favourite.
