Former Coronation Street actor Bill Ward, who played womanising builder Charlie Stubbs, is joining rival soap Emmerdale as the late John Barton’s estranged brother, James. Bill, who’ll appear on Emmerdale in October, says: “The Emmerdale team are a very talented bunch indeed, and I’m extremely chuffed to have been asked to join them.”
If you enjoyed looking into the ultra-chic hotel Claridges when it was shown on TV, you will love a new documentary all about the famous department store Liberty in London. It’s being filmed right now, but will be shown on Channel 4 this October. The doc will take you behind the scenes and show why the store has become so famous around the world.
Comedian, actor and presenter Les Dennis tells me he will be popping up on the Christmas special of Midsomer Murders this festive season – and will not be killed off until at least ad break three. Laughing, Les tells me: “You know everyone on the show checks the script to see how far into the drama they last.”
Former Strictly Come Dancing Robbie Savage has warned those about to take to the floor for the new series that they are not in for an easy ride. The football pundit finished sixth in the 2011 series of the show when he partnered Ola Jordan – but suffered a broken nose after attempting a difficult knee-slide and at one point also crashed into a camera.
Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson has been a soap star for almost 25 years, but his son thinks he’s a cleaner! The funny revelation comes out in ITV’s new series Big Star’s Little Star, which asks kids to dish the dirt on their famous folks in front of millions of viewers.
Stepping Out on ITV will see ‘celebrities’ dancing with their real-life partners on live TV every Saturday night, but they insist that it’s nothing like Strictly Come Dancing at all. “We are doing something totally different and of course we have better-known stars,” I heard. Let battle commence...
Splash, the diving series partly hosted by Tom Daley, may be back but it appears that they are struggling to get celebrities to agree to appearing in the show as “the money is not great, but far worse is the fact they will be appearing in their swimwear, which is a tough thing for anyone, but on TV – oooh...”
Michelle Keegan, who plays Tina in Coronation Street, has hinted that she is looking at Hollywood once she has left the show – and not just for a holiday. “I do think you have to take chances when they come around and I plan to do just that,” she said. “I am still young and I want to re-invent as much as possible.”
Ground-breaking comedian and DJ Kenny Everett is to be honoured with a prestigious plaque this month. During a day-long event on Saturday September 14, a British Comedy Society blue plaque will be unveiled at Kenny’s former home in Kensington. It will be followed by the launch of a new authorised biography of the television and radio star, called Hello, Darlings!
Expect to see better quips for this year’s X Factor as all judges have been given assistance in their responses. Last year it was revealed that comedian and actor James Cordon helped Gary Barlow come up with his quips, which was initially denied but then it was found out to be true...
Actor Bruce Jones (Coronation Street) is reportedly the lowest-paid housemate ever to enter Celebrity Big Brother.
However that is not quite the case, as they are all in different pay grades. In the same league as Jones is ex-boy band member Abs from Five and Louie Spence. A source tells me: “Budgets are tight, but then again this is Channel Five, let’s not forget.”
Hard man Vinnie Jones undertook training as a bodyguard during filming of his upcoming National Geographic series Vinnie Jones: Russia’s Toughest, and the experience clearly made an impression on him. “I passed the first level, and it was awesome,” says Vinnie, who is now planning a new TV series, which he will star in, based around the bodyguard business.
Bruno Langley has returned to filming on Coronation Street and has just signed a new six-month contract to stay with the show. My friend tells me: “It appears that he will be sticking around for some time and, as ever in soap, he promises some very big storylines over the coming months.”
Peter Andre has revealed that he plans to quit his reality TV show next year. However it could be more the case that ITV2 are less than happy with Andre’s decision to start his own online show, which in effect would feature everything that happens in the TV episodes. A source tells me: “Effectively it’s run its course, but we wish Pete all the best with his new ventures.”
