Following in the footsteps of their mentor

Friday 27th September 2013

ELLIE & BETHANY

TWO students from a Mirfield dance school aim to emulate their mentor by becoming teachers.

Dewsbury girls Ellie Butler (on the left) and Bethany Smart, both 16, are leaving the Sarah Sutton School of Performing Arts for a unique course. Both have won places at Preston College in Lancashire, which has a specialist dance teacher programme.

Dancing since the age of three, Bethany passed modern, tap and ballet exams while Ellie succeeded in modern and tap.

All were with distinction or merit from bodies including the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance Examination Board.

Principal Sarah Sutton said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for them. We’re all very proud of them.

“Preston is not far away and the girls can come home at weekends. Hopefully after this they will study in London at stage school.”
