Overthorpe Sports Club officially opened their superb new football pitch last Friday.
The pitch, at the club’s Ings Lane base, will allow Overthorpe SC to increase local participation in football and help build stronger relationships with the adjoining Overthorpe Junior, Infants and Nursery school and other sporting organisations in the area.
Club secretary David Jewitt said: “We are indebted to Kirklees Council, the Football Foundation and our own members for the support we have received financially to ensure we now have a pitch that will be one of the finest in the area.
“We would especially like to thank the Football Foundation, Dewsbury Area Committee and our local councillors Khizar Iqbal, Masood Ahmed and Salim Patel, who have spent many hours in discussion with the club to ensure the project went ahead.”
The pitch project has cost around £80,000 in total, including a fully-enclosing fence, and the club’s three local league teams will all play on it from the start of the forthcoming season.
