Bowser wins successful 10K race...
Great Britain international Matt Bowser won the Dewsbury 10K road race on Sunday.
A field of 944 runners started the race on an out-and-back course along Bradford Road from Dewsbury Ring Road through Batley to Birstall Smithies.
The Lincoln Wellington runner was in control from the half-way point and finished well clear of Olympic marathon athlete Matt O’Dowd (Swindon) in 30 minutes 28 seconds.
The 2004 winner Stephen Hepples (Newham and Essex Beagles) was third.
Winner of the ladies’ race was Scunthorpe’s Nicola Geddes in 35:06.
Kidney transplant athlete Peter McGouran of Otley AC, a triple gold medallist at the World Transplant Games, finished in 46 minutes 52 seconds.
This year for the first time results suppliers TDL Events offered a tracker facility where a runner’s friends and family could follow their progress on the internet.
Race director Bernard Disken, of organisers Dewsbury Road Runners, said he was relieved that the race had gone ahead just before the predicted snowfall.
