Wanted - A new name for the Princess of Wales precinct...
Youngsters have been asked to come up with a new name for Dewsbury’s Princess of Wales precinct.
Site owners Ravenhill Estates want to re-launch the area and have tasked the town’s 27 schools with deciding its new identity.
They will also design a logo which will be turned into reality by a professional design agency next year.
The winner, who will receive up to £150, will be revealed on Friday, November 24 at the Christmas Lights switch-on.
It is backed by Kirklees Council and the Batley and Dewsbury Town Centre Management board.
Coun Cathy Scott said: “The shopping centre was built in 1983 and has been home to some of the best-loved businesses ever since.
“But it time to refresh and who better than tomorrow’s shoppers to help design the new look and feel?”
Every school in the area is to get a competition pack. The deadline for entries is Friday, October 19.
Independent entries are welcome as long as they are from young people aged 19 or under who are in education and live in Dewsbury.
Coun Scott, the cabinet member for investment, added: “Judges will be looking for a name that’s memorable, distinctive and appealing.
“It also shouldn’t be too long or wordy and should have some connection to the town or local area.”
Entry packs should also be on the www.batleyanddewsbury.co.uk website from today (Friday).
