12 council houses to go up...

TWELVE new three-bedroomed council homes are to be built in Liversedge after Kirklees Council secured a £600,000 grant.
The houses, earmarked for Sixth Avenue, Windybank Estate, may be ready to rent by autumn next year subject to planning approval.
Funding has come from the Homes and Communities Agency and follows a successful bid for cash for new homes in Heckmondwike.
The scheme’s total cost is about £1.3m, with Kirklees Council putting up the remaining £700,000.
Council-owned land is to be used to keep construction costs down, making them more affordable for tenants.
Cabinet member for housing Shabir Pandor welcomed the move as a chance to ease the shortage of homes for rent: “Windybank Estate is popular. There are more than 100 ‘Choose ‘n’ Move’ bids per property when they become available.
“The latest work is at a very early stage and there is some way to go but this is a real opportunity to make a difference.
“The council is working with the Homes and Communities Agency to look at further opportunities for future funding.”
