Colonel reinforces Tory hopeful...

MILITARY hero Col Bob Stewart visited Batley this week to lend his support to Tory hopeful Janice Small’s election campaign.

As UN commander in Bosnia during the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s, Col Stewart was wounded leading British peacekeeping forces and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his actions.

Since retiring from the army ‘Bosnia Bob’ has become a noted military consultant and is now standing as the Conservative candidate in Beckenham, one of the safest seats in the country.

Col Stewart visited the RAFA Club, in Cambridge Street, on Tuesday evening to give a rousing talk to local Tories on his time spent in Bosnia, the lessons learned from the conflict, the current state of Britain’s military situation and world politics.

“I wasn’t asked to come by anyone at Central Office, Janice has been a good friend of mine for years and I just wanted to come up and lend my support to her election campaign,” he said.

“Janice will be a very strong voice for Batley and Spen and I look forward to working alongside her in Parliament.”
