Mums' idea finally goes into hyperdrive...
A NEW play gym run by two Dewsbury mums has opened after a four-year struggle to make the business a reality.
Go-Hyper, based in a former tiles store near Sainsbury’s, is the creation of Stephanie Morrison and Emma McGuire.
Former HR executive Stephanie, 38, and 36-year-old ex-local government officer Emma first tried to start up in business in 2006.
The idea got stuck when banks refused to help, despite overwhelming public support, and deals for possible premises fell through.
But House of Play, a children’s play area equipment manufacturer, came on board to supply Go-Hyper’s play zones and help arrange funding.
The final piece in the jigsaw was a unit becoming available in Goods Lane at the Sainsbury’s end of a retail park close to Dewsbury town centre.
Go-Hyper finally opened to widespread acclaim on March 22 and was packed out over the Easter break with hoards of excited children.
Stephanie said: “We had a frustrating time with the banks. We had a solid business plan, but they turned us away.
“Our idea was backed in a survey of parents and children throughout Dewsbury. Out of 200 people, 98 per cent said they would use it.
“That seems to be the case now that we’re actually here. We’ve had people coming here from Leeds as they’ve nothing like it over there.
“Easter was very busy. People seem to like the fact that they can eat and have a chat while watching their children play.”
She added that her and Emma’s respective daughters, 11-year-olds Lydia and Ella, are already Go-Hyper converts.
Go-Hyper is open from 9am to 6.30pm seven-days-a-week offering children aged up to 12 the chance to have fun in a safe environment.
Parents and carers can watch as their youngsters come down slides and clamber about on the climbing frame.
A menu of cooked-to-order food is available so that adults can relax while the children can refuel after their exertions.
The venue is available to hire for events like children’s birthday parties while discounted entry is offered to childminders on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
