Ann's Angle by Ann Montini

Ant and Dec are hoping that their new quiz show ‘Push the Button’ is a big success - it’s made by their own production company and is a far cheaper show to run than previous show ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ as there are no star guests. A source tells me: “They also hope to sell the format around the world and make even more money that way.”

Ex-Coronation Street star Suranne Jones who played Karen McDonald for five years is branching out by taking singing lessons. She tells me: “I love to sing and I figured now would be a good time if I am lucky enough to have a go at a musical in the future.” She added though: “I don’t see myself returning to the Street, but I do wish the show well in its 50th year – what an achievement.”

While Suzanne Shaw has landed a role in Emmerdale playing Edna Birch’s niece, what became of Danny, her one-time co-star in Hear’Say? A source tells me: “He has been on standby in case someone fell ill in ‘Dancing on Ice’ but now he has been let go as the series seems to be going fine without him.”

Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole may want to check the repeat showing of her ITV special ‘Cheryl's Big Night In’. The original had cut-away shots of her beaming to husband Ashley Cole in the audience - now bosses plan to cut them out as a ‘mark of respect’ Nice...

Leona Lewis is often branded as a very ‘quiet’ star. The X Factor winner, though, hopes that a new tattoo and a debut tour will make people see that she is not as dull as the media make out. She told friends: “Hopefully this will lead me to doing a special on ITV or something, I really like the idea of that in the future – you know, to get my personality out there.”

Magic man Paul Daniels, whose shows pulled in millions way back in the 70s and 80s, has lashed out at the reality TV format, saying: “It’s now a nation full of amateurs left to entertain us all. I mean we applaud someone dancing badly on ice or whatever – why can’t we be just be entertained by people that can actually do the job in the first place? It baffles me, really.”

Ex-model-turned-actress Linda Lusardi is keen to return to rural soap Emmerdale. She told me: “Thankfully I was not killed off so it would be easier to return when the kids have got older. I enjoyed my time up there so much but it was hard with all the traveling...”

Piers Morgan, never shy to boast about his own ratings, has gone all quiet on his recent high-profile and heavily-plugged chat with Prime Minister Gordon Brown. It appears that even Jordan pulled in more viewers than him, but the highest rating star on his show so far was in fact the King of Pop himself – Sir Cliff Richard with nearly six million viewers.

BBC Radio Two star and West End legend Elaine Paige is keen to transfer her sucessful radio show to TV. A source reveals: “It’s proved a huge success and she thinks it could do well on TV too – they are in talks now about it.”

Simon Cowell’s plan to take his X Factor show to the US is gathering pace. Insiders over at Fox TV tell me that he is more than keen to have judge Paula Abdul by his side again. They added: “He missed her when she quit the American Idol show and it makes obvious sense to him to re-hire her for his new mission to win over the public with yet another talent show in the US.”

Desperate Housewives is looking shaky here in the UK ratings-wise. ABC, who make the show in the US, are worried that we and other countries have gone off the show – ratings for the show on Channel Four how that as little as 1.2 million watched the latest episodes ... just when John Barrowman landed a role too.

John Barrowman is not sure what the future is for his hit sci-fi show ‘Torchwood’. Now trying his luck with a stint in Desperate Housewives, John reveals: “I would love to think the show will be coming back but it’s all down to the writers and the BBC. We did well in the ratings, but who knows what the future holds for Captain Jack?”

BBC drama ‘Material Girl’ based in the high-fashion world of London has been dropped after only one series. The drama, which featured a whole host of guest stars, failed to be in fashion with the viewers and plummeted down to under two million watching on a Thursday night after starting off with over five million.

Soon to depart EastEnders, Queen Vic legend Babs Windsor says she would love to do some comedy roles to show off her fun side again. “I won't be doing the jungle or Strictly,” she giggled.

“But I like the idea of making people laugh again – we could all do with that don't you think?”
